Outstanding Division/Section

The Outstanding Section Award is presented to the Section that does the most to serve its members and advance transportation engineering within its geographical area during the preceding year. Judging is based on an annual report submitted by each Section to outline its membership, technical, education and professional development accomplishments. In 1999, the award was divided into two groups (Group I for the four larger sections and Group II for the four smaller sections). Group I is comprised of the Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Sections. Group II consists of the Alabama, Deep South, Kentucky and South Carolina Sections.

Outstanding Student Chapter

In order to encourage activity among the student chapters within the Southern District, an award was created in 1972 to recognize the best student chapters. A fellowship fund was originally established in 1972 by an anonymous donor that would go to worthy students of a graduate program. In 1977, the fellowship was changed to a $200 cash award to the winning Student Chapter and $150 to the runner-up Student Chapter. All other student chapters that submit a chapter report automatically receive $100. The outstanding Student Chapters are chosen based on their chapter reports that are submitted to the Education and Student Chapter Committee Chair by March 1st.
